In this case, one end of the bathtub might have a tiled wall and the other end were there is no physical wall and one might see a glass partition. When considering a glass door and whether to install a rolling or sliding door one must usually have a minimum of 2” of space on the deck of the tub to place the glass and door sliding mechanism. Many free standing tubs in the market today are more oval in shape or some derivative thereof and are made from stone/resin composite blend or acrylic. The free standing bathtubs made from a composite or blend of stone and resin have more advanced performance benefits than their acrylic made alternatives. The composites or solid surface material used for free standing bathtub fabrication has heat retentive properties keeping bath water warmer than the thin plastic walls of acrylic models. It does not flex or rebound when stepping into it. Solid surface models tend to be more easily repairable and come in both glossy and matte finishes. Solid surface free standing tubs tend to be made in one seamless piece where the acrylic free-standing tubs are often seamed together leaving them more exposed to eventual leaks.
